Filters

Only hear about the changes that matter to you, and add one calendar more than once to split it between people.

A busy calendar can change for reasons that have nothing to do with you: a different age group, a different team, a room you'll never use. Filters let you choose which changes are worth an email. Everything else is still checked and still recorded in the calendar's history; it just isn't sent.

Filters are part of the Pro and Business plans.

Add a filter

  1. Open a calendar and go to its Filters tab.
  2. Add one or more rules:
  • Add a word or phrase: match text in the event's Title, Location, or Description. Choose whether it contains, is exactly, starts with, or ends with your text. Capital letters don't matter.
  • Add a change type: only Added, Changed, or Cancelled events, or any mix of them.
  • Add a date range: only events happening between two dates. Leave either date blank for no limit on that side.
  • Add a pattern: for advanced matching, a regular expression against the fields you choose.
  1. Choose how the rules combine under Send a change when: it matches every rule (all must match), or it matches any rule (one is enough).
  2. Check the Preview, then save.

The preview runs your rules against this calendar's recent changes and shows which ones would have been sent. It's the same check we run before every alert, so what the preview shows is what you'll get. New rules apply from the next check.

Turn a rule around

Every word, phrase, and pattern rule has Invert this rule. Tick it to match everything that does *not* meet the rule. For example, "Title contains Seniors", inverted, sends every change except the seniors' events.

Examples

  • Only your child's age group: Title contains U10.
  • Only cancellations and moves: change type Changed and Cancelled.
  • Only this term: a date range from the first day of term to the last.
  • Home games only: Location contains the name of your home ground.

To remove filtering, delete every rule and save. With no rules, every change is sent.

One calendar, several filters

You can add the same calendar more than once. Each copy has its own name, its own filters, and its own recipients. That lets you split one busy calendar between the people who need different parts of it.

For example, a club publishes one calendar for every age group:

  1. Add the club's calendar and name it Club: U10. Add the filter Title contains U10, and on its Recipients tab tick the parent of the U10 player.
  2. Choose Add a Calendar again, paste the same link, and name it Club: U12. Add the filter Title contains U12, and tick the U12 parent.
  3. Each parent now gets only their own child's changes, from the one calendar the club publishes.

Each copy counts as one calendar toward your plan's limit, because each one is its own stream of alerts. We still fetch the calendar only once per check, however many copies you have, so the club's site isn't asked twice.
